Have you ever found yourself asking, “You know what someone should do?”
I have another question. Why couldn’t that “someone” be you?
Every day, innovations in education, administration, counseling, testing, and psychology are being made by ordinary people. Schools are chartered, programs are created, and money is raised where before there was only a gap to be filled, an issue to be solved, or an opportunity yet to be developed.
University of Iowa College of Education students, alumni, and faculty are proof that you do not need to be an industry giant or a Nobel Prize-winner to be an agent for change. Through a combination of their “can do” attitude and “whatever it takes” determination, they forge new ground and affect us all. A pioneering spirit and strength of character make them perfect mentors for a future generation of educators.
We must be willing to get our hands dirty, take risks, and think outside the box. Expect greatness from yourself and those around you. Don’t be satisfied with the status quo. Embrace change.
And next time you notice something that needs to be done, realize that the person to do it is you. To paraphrase Mahatma Gandhi, each of us can be the change we want to see in the world.
