Debbie Green
Debbie Green,
Director of Development

One fact that makes my job as the new director of development for the College of Education easy is this: No one understands better than educators the value of a quality education.

It is already clear from the alumni and students I have met that you appreciate and take pride in your UI education—and for good reason. Many of you remain connected with the College in a number of ways, including by making annual contributions or gifts in other forms, such as endowments and bequests.

In introducing myself, I will mention that after nearly 20 years in fundraising for higher education—and as a native Iowan who has always lived in this area—I am pleased to be working for The University of Iowa Foundation. And while I am not a UI alumna, my husband, Dennis Green, is a 1982 graduate—which I mention because many of you in the Iowa City area may know him as the general manager of jazz radio station KCCK at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

I am also especially glad to serve the UI College of Education because of the continuing involvement and commitment of education alumni.  With two sons in high school, I have developed a parent’s perspective on what makes for an effective education. I sincerely believe in the important role that educators play in guiding our children—and by doing so, in shaping our state’s and our nation’s future.

I look forward to meeting as many of the college’s graduates and friends as possible. I am eager to help you continue to play a vital role in supporting students and faculty—and maintaining the college’s facilities, programs, and learning resources—through your contributions. Let’s work together to ensure that today’s College of Education students continue to become tomorrow’s leaders in education.
