College of Education Clinical Instructor Leslie Flynn assembled 17 UI faculty and students to serve as coaches, mentors, and state event supervisors at the Science Olympiad, an annual statewide science tournament for Iowa’s middle and high school students.

National Science Education Leadership Association Awards—Emeritus Professor Robert E. Yager received the Outstanding Science Education Leader Award for his dedication to improving science education.

Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values Awards—Higher Education and Student Affairs graduate student, Rebecca Ingraham, won the Order of the Omega Case Study Competition.

Two gifts of $500,000 each helped the Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank International Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development make major headway in its $2.5 million fundraising campaign to celebrate the center’s 25th anniversary in 2013. Gifts came from the children of Connie and David Belin and Mary Bucksbaum Scanlan.
