Realizing Dreams

At the College of Education, our most important task is nurturing and preparing students to serve and lead. Whether teachers, school administrators, counselors, psychologists, or professors, our graduates are prepared to meet the ever-changing needs of an interconnected world. That task begins by bringing the best and most deserving students to the College by offering the financial assistance they need to succeed through both merit and need-based aid.

The College recently recognized over 100 students at its annual scholarship luncheon by awarding $150,000 from its 41 privately funded, named scholarship funds. Our priority is to provide students with both access and excellence, and today, as never before, these qualities depend on private support.

Many opportunities exist for creating endowed student scholarships, allowing you to make a significant difference in students’ lives—today and far into the future.

An endowed fund requires a minimum gift commitment of $50,000. Not only do endowed scholarships benefit many generations of students, they can also perpetuate your name—or the name of someone you wish to honor—as a loyal and generous friend of UI students.

Another way to provide support is through annual gifts of $1,000 or more to the College Advancement Fund. These gifts are earmarked for the Dean’s Award of Excellence and are given based on the merits of the student’s work and research. This year, 26 such awards were given and our goal is to increase that number every year.

By supporting scholarships, you assist talented students who show the promise of educational leadership. Scholarships serve an essential purpose, providing beginning professionals with an opportunity to focus on their studies and to be well prepared for the years of service they will provide. Simply put, the gift of scholarships from friends and alumni help students realize their aspirations to the fullest.
