Dr. John L. Hosp
University of Iowa

HospJohn L. Hosp is a Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Formerly he was a Professor and Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at the University of Iowa. He is also the Co-Director of the Center for Disability Research and Education (CDRE). He received a Ph.D. in Education and Human Development from Vanderbilt University in 2002 and a Masters in School Psychology from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1995.

Dr. Hosp’s research focuses on aspects of implementing response to intervention (RtI), including disproportionate representation of minority students in special education and aligning assessment and instruction, particularly in the areas of curriculum-based measurement (CBM) and curriculum-based evaluation (CBE). His research and training activities have been supported by the Institute for Education Sciences, Iowa Department of Education, Utah Department of Education as well as the U. S. Department of Education offices of Special Education Programs (OSEP), Postsecondary Education (OPE), Indian Education (OIE), and Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS).

Dr. Hosp is the former Editor of Assessment for Effective Intervention. He has conducted workshops nationally on reading, CBM, CBE, and RtI and has authored over 50 journal articles, monographs, and book chapters. His books include The ABCs of CBM: A Practical Guide to Curriculum-Based Measurement, Designing and Conducting Research in Education, and The ABCs of Curriculum-Based Evaluation: A Practical Guide to Effective Decision Making.
