Dr. Christopher Morphew University of Iowa

Christopher C. Morphew is Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership at the University. A member of the faculty of the Higher Education and Student Affairs faculty, he previously held tenured faculty positions at the University of Kansas and University of Georgia. Professor Morphew earned his Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Education from Stanford University. He has also earned degrees from Harvard University and the University of Notre Dame.

Professor Morphew’s research focuses on issues of institutional diversity, including those related to state higher education policy and the ways whereby colleges and universities communicate to constituent groups. His work has appeared in many journals, including the Review of Higher Education, Research in Higher Education, The Journal of Higher Education, Educational Finance, Higher Education Policy and the NASPA Journal. He has made invited and refereed presentations across the United States and in more than a dozen other countries.

His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the Lumina Foundation, and the Ford Foundation. His most recent book (co-edited with Peter Eckel) is Privatizing the Public University (2010, Johns Hopkins University Press).
