Dr. Ernest T. Pascarella

Ernest Pascarella, University of Iowa, member of the Iowa Academy of EducationDr. Ernest Pascarella is the Mary Louise Petersen Professor of Higher Education at The University of Iowa. He has focused his research and writing on the impact of college on students and student persistence in higher education. He has authored over 130 journal articles on these topics, and is coauthor (with Patrick T. Terenzini) of the 1991 Jossey-Bass book, How College Affects Students, which received the 1991 Research Achievement Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education.

Dr. Pascarella has also received a number of other national awards for research including the 1981 Albert J. Harris Award; the 1987 Sidney Suslow Award; the 1990 and 1995 Forum Best Paper Awards from the Association for Institutional Research; the 1988 Outstanding Contributions to Research Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators; the 1989 Distinguished Research Award from Division J of the American Educational Research Association; the 1992 Contribution to Knowledge Award from the American College Personnel Association; and the 1997 Assessment Research Award from Commission IX of the American College Personnel Association. In 1989-90 he served as president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education and in 1992 was named the James F. Towey University Scholar by the University of Illinois.
