Learning Summary

I began my practicum placement by establishing a goal for myself: to develop both individually and professionally.  Now that my practicum its end I can reflect back on all the effort and time that I have invested into this experience. I feel confident that I have indeed accomplished my goal.

This semester has taught me a lot about myself and the teacher I would want to become.  I have learned to reflect upon, and positively utilize constructive criticism.  I am very committed to working hard and have high expectations for myself as well as my students. From this experience I have also learned that becoming a truly great teacher means taking risks and making mistakes.  I realize that maintaining an open mind and remaining flexible are characteristics that are valuable for the classroom and life in general.

I feel that I have also grown professionally as a result of this experience.  I believe that this semester has improved my ability to both plan and implement lessons with clarity and confidence.  I have also come to value the role of mentors within the profession as a means of professional growth.  When educators are permitted time to collaborate and exchange ideas truly wonderful things happen.

I feel very confident going into student teaching.  I know that I have a strong grasp of educational theory, and a clear picture of the sort of teacher that I want to become.  I feel that my main focus will now be working toward effectively applying educational theory and my personal philosophy towards meeting school and district goals..
