Video Reflection

I was pleasantly surprised by watching my videotaped lesson. It is neat to see how much I have already learned and how different my teaching is from just a few weeks ago.

I feel like the reason this lesson worked was because of the attention getter. It gave students a reason to key in and a job to complete (helping me pick out a watch). I am surprised by how well I can integrate student comments into what we are doing and am glad that I am not sounding to mean when telling students to get on their jobs.

One thing in the video that I haad not noticed as I was teaching is how much everyone is moving. I am undecided whether this is really a problem or not. It seems like everyone is engaged and not bothered by the movement. But when I watch the tape, all I do is stare at everyone moving around. I think that this is probably something to worry about when it begins to make students less engaged.

I think at the end I should have clapped to get the students’ attention and reminded them that others were still working on the assignment. This could have prevented it from getting so loud at the end. It also would have been nice to have a little more time to come together and conclude.
