RASHEED ALI
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY
PSYCHOLOGICAL & QUANTITATIVE FOUNDATIONS
When
the Counseling Psychology faculty brought up the idea of joining
them as a faculty member after I completed my two-year postdoctoral
fellowship, I jumped at the opportunity. The University of
Iowa's Counseling Psychology program is one of the best in
the nation and the faculty is both top-notch, as well as,
accessible and down to earth. I would extend these comments
to the entire College of Education. It is an honor to be able
to continue to be part of this College.
RESEARCH
INTERESTS: vocational and career development of rural
youth, especially the understanding of career development
of rural high school students as well as, designing and implementing
career education programs for local rural high schools. Additional
research interests include the intersection of feminism and
multiculturalism and research on social class and poverty.

was very appealing.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
REHABILITATION COUNSELING
COUNSELING, REHABILITATION & STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
"In
addition to the prestige of the University and the national
reputation of the Rehabilitation Counseling program-ranked
3rd in the nation, my primary reason for choosing Iowa was
the Institute on Ethics being developed by Professor Vilia
Tarvydas and my affiliation with the Center for Law, Health
Policy, and Disability. Other factors that influenced my decision
are the caliber of faculty in the Department of Counseling,
Rehabilitation and Student Development; the friendly, creative,
and supportive atmosphere; and Dean Damico's interest in staying
on the cutting edge of the profession."
RESEARCH
INTERESTS: Ethical decision-making and behaviors of rehabilitation
counselors.

EDUCATIONAL POLICY & LEADERSHIP STUDIES
"I
am thrilled to be a part of the University of Iowa College
of Education-the crème de la crème of leaders
in education. I believe it is one of the most powerful change
agents for schools because of their role in the development
of our school leaders. I look forward to assisting children
by facilitating this development of effective and inspiring
educational leaders."
RESEARCH
INTERESTS: Looking for innovative best practice models
to assist in school improvement. Lagos just completed a Federal
Fund for the Improvement of Education grant at the Johnson
School of the Arts in Cedar Rapids and has applied the Reggio-Emilia
philosophy to her practice in early childhood and elementary
public schools.

"I
came to The University of Iowa expressly to work with the
special education faculty. Their work is exemplary and well
respected within the field. But I also moved here for the
town itself. Iowa City reminds me of Charlottesville, Virginia."
RESEARCH

with learning disabilities and developing school-based procedures
in a way that are consistent with the definition of learning
disabilities.

"I
was drawn to The University of Iowa for several reasons, however,
I was most interested in the College's strong emphasis on
teaching evidence-based methods, commitment to furthering
the research on young children with disabilities, and strong
relationship with both the local community and special education
advocacy councils across the country."
RESEARCH
INTERESTS: Academic status and interventions for young
