1970s
Becky Hall (BA ’70) retired after 25 years teaching in the Iowa City Community School District, the last 12 years helping open the new Kate Wickham Elementary School and teaching first and second grade.
Hall’s teaching experience included a year spent in Warragul, Australia, as part of the Iowa International Teacher Fellowship Exchange, where she picked up new concepts to try in Iowa, such as the whole language method of teaching reading. During her career, she said she witnessed a lot of changes in the schools with the rise of technology.
Jarvis Ulbricht (PhD ’76) retired from active teaching after a 44 year career. He taught in the Shawnee Mission (KS) Public Schools, and at Wichita State University before completing his doctorate at Iowa and teaching art education courses in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin for 34 years.
