Dr. Jackie M. Blount, Professor (School of Educational Policy & Leadership), currently serves as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. She received her doctoral degree in the social foundation of education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then served on the faculty at Iowa State University for 16 years before moving to OSU in 2009.
Dr. Blount's research focuses on the history of gender and sexuality in American schools. Her work has been published in such journals as the Harvard Educational Review, Review of Educational Research, and Educational Administration Quarterly. Her books include Destined to Rule the Schools (1998) and Fit to Teach: Same-Sex Desire, Gender, and School Work in the Twentieth Century (2004), which was named as Honorable Mention for the History of Education Society's Outstanding Book Award for 2006. Currently, she is writing a biography of Ella Flagg Young, Superintendent of Chicago Schools from 1909-1915.
Dr. Blount was the first recipient of the FINE Foundation's Thomas N. Urban Educational Research Award. She also received Iowa State University's Award for Early Excellence in Teaching. She (and Marilyn Tallerico) won the Davis Award for most outstanding article published in the 2004 volume of Educational Administration Quarterly.
